Overview

We spoke to Helen Ferguson, Consultant Nurse for Europe, for Cognita Schools. 

Cognita Schools have been using Medical Tracker to track and manage their entire health and safety provision across their 40 schools.

How is Medical Tracker used across the schools?

As a school group, the demands of Cognita Schools are slightly different to, for example, a primary school or after-school club.

Helen describes that the management of health & safety before Medical Tracker was a manual process. As expected, this was a very time consuming and laborious task.

Helen remarks, "We were also conscious of the difficulty in retrieving information from members of staff who may have subsequently left their position with the school/company".

"In our effort to improve efficiency across the Cognita schools, we looked to move towards a more streamlined digital based solution and reviewed various systems on the market with the ability to modify/personalise, simple to use, the ability to provide measurable data and cost effective". 

What impact has Medical Tracker had on first aid provision?

Helen describes the impact of Medical Tracker, "We have found the generic reporting feature very useful and are delighted at the introduction of the ability to now create individualised reports".

"From an individual school perspective, essential information was simply drawn through from our MIS. Staff have found the system easy to use, saving a lot of administrative time".

"It is easy to track individual students and manage medication in school. Communication with parents has been clear and documented".

"Schools are able to identify trends, reviewing the readily available data on accidents, incidents and near misses and thereby helping to improve health and safety outcomes".

We asked Helen why Medical Tracker seemed the most applicable solution to the school group. "We chose Medical Tracker because it provided many of our requirements in an easy-to-use format and they provided support to integrate with our management information system (MIS), provided ongoing training for staff and prompt customer support.

"Medical Tracker was then rolled out to our 40 schools in the UK and then extended to other schools in Europe within our schools’ group and we were supported by a clear and simple onboarding process".

"We have been able to develop a great collaborative working relationship in the last 7 years which has allowed us to work on developing our requirements as we move into the future". 

We are thrilled to hear that Medical Tracker is not only improving the health and safety tracking across the Cognita schools but that it is also improving collaboration and communication between the schools and parents/carers.

As you can see, Medical Tracker has improved the centralisation of tracking and managing a vitally important task for teachers, schools and the school group as a whole. 

The schools within Cognita have now secured a long-term solution to their safeguarding provision. Helen, as a Consultant nurse, is even able to track staff first-aid qualifications and keep up-to-date with important staff welfare.
